So, what exactly is KittYoga?

Basically, it's yoga...with cats! KittYoga is a partnership between Bag of Bones Barkery, Zephyr Yoga and Trenton Cats Rescue that provides you the unique opportunity to partake in a professionally instructed, 1-hour yoga class in the presence of free-roaming, adoptable cats. You will also have 30 minutes outside of each class to interact and play with the cats in attendance (if they wish to do so). As you learn a variety of yoga poses, movements and breath patterns, cats will be able to roam freely and may even join in on the action! Each class generally involves a lot of laughter and love as yoga students enjoy not only the presence of cats but also their tremendous benefits to our universal health and auras.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the structure of the classes?

Each class takes place from 5:45 to 7:15pm at Bag of Bones Barkery, 364 Route 33, Hamilton NJ 08619. Interaction time with the cats will take place from 5:45-6pm as well as 7-7:15pm. Zephyr Yoga will conduct a 1-hour class from 6-7pm. At least one Trenton Cats Rescue volunteer will be present in each and every class to not only supervise the cats on site but also to answer questions about the cats or their organization. During each class, all doors to the yoga room will - and must - remain closed. The two main doors will remain locked for the safety and security of the cats in the class. Of course, if a student must exit the room (to use the restroom or for any other personal reason), he/she will be permitted to do so with assistance from the TCR volunteer(s) if necessary. Classes do take place in a room with large windows that is attached to our retail sales floor. So, people may look into the class. People may be conducting business, and other pets may be in the area (some barking or being disruptive). Part of learning yoga is centering and concentrating in a way that tunes out such distractions if they are present!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've never done yoga before. Can I still participate?

Absolutely! In fact, KittYoga is designed with the beginner in mind, and we encourage everyone to start their yoga journey with Zephyr Yoga's knowledgeable, welcoming and patient instructors. As long as your not restricted to partake in such activities by your doctor or medical professional, we would love to welcome you to your first yoga class. A great option for beginners is Foundations (during which students learn safe alignment of poses and gain experience), but beginners are welcome at all KittYoga classes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is KittYoga for adults, or can children join in?

While most classes are designed for adults over 18, Family Yoga is a WONDERFUL (and inexpensive) way for the entire family to bond in a very unique - and healthy - way. Family Yoga is only $25 per family (which is up to 2 adults and 3 children under the age of 17). It's open to yogis of all skill levels, too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not the most 'athletic' person, nor am I very flexible or coordinated. Can I participate in any KittYoga classes?

Everyone is welcome at KittYoga, and there is a class for everyone! Regardless of your 'skill level' or 'level of comfort' with yoga, you will likely feel at home and/or comfortable in any of our classes. However, you may want to give a quick look at our Gentle & Supported Class, which aids your movement with the use of a chair or wall for support.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do I need to bring with me to my yoga class?

You should bring your own yoga mat or towel and some water to drink. Each adult participating in KittYoga must also complete a liability waiver. You can print and complete the waiver from our site and bring it with you, or you can complete the waiver at the store right before your class. Children 17 and younger may be included on a parent's waiver, and you need only complete your waiver one time (not for each class). Please, do NOT bring your own pets to ANY KittYoga events. You will NOT be permitted to enter the yoga room with a pet of any kind.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How many cats will be in each class? Will I have one-on-one time with a cat?

It is very possible that there will be a different number of cats in each class. Trenton Cats Rescue will always have the best interest of the cats in mind when deciding which cats will attend each class. Cats must be able to get along during the class and be comfortable enough to be in such an environment. While there may generally be one cat attending for every 3-5 human participants, there may be some classes with less. This means you may not have one-on-one time with a cat before, during or after the class.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will I be able to play with cats during the class?

We've built in 15 minutes before and after each class to allow for play time with the cats in attendance (if they wish to do so, of course). During class, it's generally preferred if you concentrate on the instructor. Of course, one or more cats may very well decide to interact with you and join in your yoga regiment during the class. If that happens, "go with the flow" (pun intended)!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can I just play with the cats and skip the yoga part?

Well...not really. KittYoga is specifically designed to offer you an opportunity to partake in a healthy, relaxing activity while also giving cats in need exposure and potentially new homes. Zephyr Yoga and Trenton Cats Rescue are graciously taking time from their schedules to offer their services for this experience, so we expect all students to fully participate. We are planning other cat-centric events that exclude physical activity and focus more on kitty interaction. If that's your main goal, you may want to keep your eyes and ears out for those types of events.
